Spring Make-up Routine

Happy First Official Day of Spring!

The weather is getting warmer where I am, and I am graciously greeting the rain with the biggest smile (in case no one’s figured it out yet – I LOVE the rain)!

With that in mind, my make-up routine is going through a change with the season, and a whole new set of products have made their way into my vanity. I absolutely love the spring trends, all the colours, and the glowy goddess vibes. I have obviously tailored this routine for my own skin type, but there are no rules to make-up so do whatever you like!

I’ve been debating whether or not to post this, with the world’s current state, but felt that maybe something light hearted is exactly what we need.

I had fun going through my make-up products to see exactly how I am wearing some of the spring trends this year, and hope you find some joy in reading and experimenting with make-up too.

Here is my Spring time routine:

Prep: Evian Natural Mineral Water Spray

A very important step in anyone’s make up routine, is skincare. Having a clean, even base is essential for the make-up application to be as smooth and flawless as it can be. Once you’re done with that, most people like to prep their face with a primer.

I recently started using the Evian Mineral Water Spray as my prep setting spray. It gives a nice mist coating my entire face and hydrating it even more as my skin is dry. This has become a ‘must-do’ step for me and if I go without it, I can feel and see a huge difference. The mist is absorbed by my skin, leaving it dewy but also super blend-able with any foundation I decide to go in with.

After applying my base, eyes (not mascara though), bronzer, powder, and blush, I go in again with this spray to keep everything together and fresh. Then, I apply the highlighter over top of it in the areas I want highlighted and it gives a beautiful beaming effect. Anytime I find my skin to be dry or a little harder to blend product, this spray is my saviour!

Foundation – Custom Cover Drops:

So, after doing my skincare routine and prepping my base, I am ready to start playing! The Custom Cover Drops by Cover FX is my absolute go to for the spring/summer time. The product is advertised as a product to mix in with whichever foundation you want to use for the added coverage and/or glow, but I like to use it alone without mixing anything else in with it as my all over foundation.

It is absolutely beautiful, buildable coverage, and leaves the skin so dewy but not shiny. I put a couple drops on the back of my hand, and use a beauty blender to get that finish I want. It does not lay in my smile lines or crevices as some heavier foundations do. I have been using this for about two years now and I’m so happy with the outcome every single time.

Powder – Hourglass Veil Translucent Setting Powder:

My next step is to set my face. I did skip concealer as I do not use concealer in the spring/summer. When I use the Custom Drops, I can decide which area’s need more coverage and proceed that way without dumping so much product on my face. Concealer tends to cake on me particularly, especially under the eyes due to constantly having bad skin, so I don’t reach for it when I want the flawless, dewy, sun-kissed look.

I use the Hourglass powder under my eyes, around my mouth, near my nose, and a little bit on the forehead. This product is on my ‘Stranded on a Desert Island’ List. It is so light, and absolutely brightening that I don’t need that highlighting concealer to brighten my under eyes. It is a dry-skinned girl’s dream powder!

Bronzer – Chanel Soleil Tan De Chanel:

This universal bronzer is a must-have in everyone beauty bag. I recently (by recently I mean like in December) decided to finally purchase it and see what everyone was on about… this is the only bronzer I have used in the last three and a half months. I use it as an all over bronzer, but I also use it as a contour as it is such a buildable product.

It has a creamy consistency but turns to powder once applied on the skin. It lasts throughout the day, sometimes even outlasting my foundation, and has this beautiful effect on the skin that gives it the dewy look without being overtly glowy. It has some specks of sparkle in the bronzer itself, but it does not appear on the skin as extreme as it appears in the jar. It definitely is so appropriate for the spring, giving you the sun-kissed look without trying!

Blush – Morphe 8W Warm Master Blush Palette:

Now this step is more exciting in the spring as the array of pink hues and coral colours can finally make their reappearance, unless you’re a bad bitch and just wear them all the time πŸ˜‰

I am not super into the orange, red, or coral blushes, but I do love warm pinks that are just natural enough to pull off but still tie the whole look together. This Morphe Palette is amazing for that. Granted, I mostly use the one shade, Sweet. It is matte pink, which despite me saying I want to look glowy and dewy, having that balance of matte and gloss is essential in not looking like a tin man. It is complimentary for my skin tone, long-lasting, and the perfect shade of pink for any bright lip I decide to go for that day. I wish Morphe would make a single pan blush with this shade!

I have hit pan on this palette that it was not aesthetically pleasing to take a picture of, so here’s a photo of it off the Morphe website!

Highlighter – Wet n Wild Megaglo Highlighting Powder in Blossom Glow:

On one of those days when I somehow find myself so far deep in make-up videos on YouTube when I should’ve been the productive human I aspire to be, I found out about this product. The minute I saw the make-up artist apply it, I fell in love. Thankfully, when I rushed to the store to pick it up the next day, it looked amazing on my skin as well.

This highlight is subtle enough to dust everywhere and anywhere, but impactful enough to shine and glisten in the sun. It has that nice pinky, rose gold tone that works well with all the spring eye looks and ties everything together. It makes me look so healthy and like I actually drink that 2L of water a day that I say I will do but never actually follow through with. But my ultimate favourite thing about it, it applies beautifully with all my foundations. Sometimes a highlighter can get crepe-y or even graining despite how soft and buttery it feels when swatched. This may be an only me thing or a dry-skin issue, but this highlighter melted in with the entire look so wonderfully and had the glass like look that I live for.

Eyeshadow – Blue Blood Palette by Jeffree Star Cosmetics and Jaclyn Hill x Morphe 2 Palette

Last year, I managed to get the Blue Blood Palette by Jeffree Star Cosmetics. It was a purchased based upon how beautiful I thought the colour story was, not necessarily how I would actually use the palette day-to-day. I surprised myself when I made an effort to use it daily, and absolutely loved it! The colours are so bold and beautiful, and definitely within the spring vibe. They work amazingly with my brown eyes and given them the pop without going overboard especially for a daytime look. It is so versatile and despite it being intimidating at first, after a few uses, you become a pro! I honestly recommend this to anyone wanting to go out of their comfort zone or try new things this season.

Something a little more manageable but still fun and within the spring theme would be the new Jaclyn Hill x Morphe Volume 2 Palette. This screams spring to me when I saw it! I am actually still waiting on a shipment which I believe might take a little longer due to these unforeseen circumstances, but having owned many Morphe Palettes, I think it is safe to assume that the quality will be there and so will the colour pay-off. Since, I haven’t used it much I do not feel as comfortable speaking about it, but the colours are there for experimenting but also sticking to what you know, and both the collaborator and the company have excellent values so I am excited to see what looks I come up with!

Mascara – Lancome Hypnose Waterproof Mascara & Brows – Anastasia Beverly Hills Dipbrow Gel

I am sooooooo picky with my mascaras because my eyelashes are the worst ever. So truthfully, I stick to what I know and that usually is the L’Oreal Telescopic in Carbon Black. But, the best waterproof mascara I have trust thus far is the Lancome Hypnose mascara. It applies nicely and easily, is completely waterproof, and has that black shade that actually matches your eyelashes and lifts them up bringing your whole look together. It’s perfect for those day you’re running errands in the rain, or going for a swim.

As you can tell by the products and the process so far, I do like to keep things to a minimum in the spring. After having the sun hide behind clouds and white fog all winter, it’s nice to let my skin breath and soak in the Vitamin D without having so much barriers in the way. Plus, spring tends to be the busiest time of year for me with so much turnover, changing, and events going on from birthdays to anniversaries, that keeping my makeup light and quick to do is essential.

This is where this incredible brow product comes in. It is water-proof, pigmented, and keeps everything in place!

Lips – Gloss!

During this time of year, I love a good gloss. I have like 15 of them in my bag at all times and scattered around every room of my house. A good lipstick or matte liquid lip are amazing too, but add a gloss on top and with your glowy skin and bright colours, it’s magic!

Here are some of my favourite glosses and balms to wear on their own or overtop any lip product:

Buxom Full-on Lip Polish in Brooke

Almay Colour + Care Liquid Lip Balm in Pink Pout

Almay Colour + Care Liquid Lip Balm in Cantaloup Cream

Dose of Colour x Disney in Muah!

Fenty Beauty Gloss Bomb

That is it for the products I will be using and loving all Spring season! I hope everyone is staying safe out there and not letting anything stop them from doing their best – even if it means being home and quarantined!

What products would you recommend? What spring trends do you live for?
